Heavy Metal & Tailings Water Engineering for Mining & Minerals
Mining operations, mineral beneficiation, and coal washeries generate highly acidic effluents loaded with abrasive suspended solids and toxic heavy metals. We engineer heavy-duty treatment and recovery systems designed to neutralize Acid Mine Drainage (AMD), safely precipitate heavy metals, and recover vast volumes of process water from tailings ponds to ensure environmental compliance and water security.

Mining Challenges vs. Hydro Engineered Solutions
How our specialized heavy industrial engineering eliminates persistent operational and environmental bottlenecks in the mining and minerals sectors.
- MINING CHALLENGE #1
Acid Mine Drainage (AMD) & Extreme pH
The excavation of sulfide-bearing rocks exposes them to air and water, generating highly corrosive sulfuric acid runoff. This AMD exhibits extremely low pH levels, which rapidly corrodes standard pumping infrastructure and leaches massive quantities of toxic metals into surrounding watersheds.
- HydRO Engineering Solution
Automated HDS Neutralization
Deployment of High-Density Sludge (HDS) technology and automated lime dosing skids. This process rapidly buffers extreme acidity to a neutral pH while simultaneously precipitating dissolved metals. The HDS method creates a highly concentrated, dense sludge that is vastly easier to dewater and safely dispose of compared to conventional neutralization.
- MINING CHALLENGE #2
Toxic Heavy Metals & Cyanide Contamination
Gold, copper, and base metal extraction processes leave wash water and tailings saturated with regulated contaminants like cyanide, arsenic, lead, and cadmium. These compounds are lethal to aquatic ecosystems and require complex, multi-stage intervention to meet strict CPCB discharge limits.
- HydRO Engineering Solution
Selective Precipitation & Ion Exchange
Integration of targeted chemical precipitation (using sulfides or specialized coagulants) to drop out bulk metals, followed by advanced oxidation for complete cyanide destruction. The effluent is then passed through specific chelating Ion-Exchange (IX) resins that selectively strip trace heavy metals down to parts-per-billion (ppb) levels.
- MINING CHALLENGE #3
Massive Suspended Solids & Abrasive Tailings
Coal washeries and mineral crushing plants discharge effluent containing immense loads of silt, clay, and abrasive rock dust. This high Total Suspended Solids (TSS) effluent quickly blinds standard filtration systems and causes severe mechanical wear on pumps and valves.
